No one should go hungry during the COVID-19 pandemic!
With school closures, job disruptions, and health risks, many in our community will turn to food banks for much-needed support. The NFL Alumni – Philadelphia Chapter is responding to the urgent call from our local food banks.
In response to the unforeseen COVID-19 pandemic, the Food Bank of South Jersey and Philabundance (the food bank serving the Philadelphia region) is working to continue providing food for seniors and families in need.
Due to COVID-19, these food banks must adapt its efforts to ensure individuals and families have access to the food they need WHILE preventing the spread of the virus. This puts an extra strain on operations, but they are modifying food distribution to ensure the safety of their staff and volunteers.
The NFL Alumni – Philadelphia Chapter is collecting donations to support these emergency relief programs and help these food banks respond promptly to emergency food requests while maintaining existing operations.
As part of of their proactive response to the COVID-19 pandemic and to address proper safety protocols, these food banks have worked hard to eliminate barriers to food distribution by implementing low- to no-contact delivery solutions.
While they usually host food distribution days, they will now deliver emergency food bags and boxes to families that include five days’ worth of meals: breakfasts, lunches and snacks, along with fresh meals and shelf-stable food items for children. To the vulnerable senior population, they are delivering two weeks’ worth of food supplies.
